Lab Supervisor

REPORTING TO:                        Bob McCulfor

GEOGRAPHICAL REPORTING LOCATION:       Kalamazoo, MI

Directly supervise the daily assignments of 3-8 technicians, analysts or chemists

  • Schedule daily work to achieve AvTech goals
  • Meet primary target dates 90% of the time.  Meet secondary target dates 100% of the time.

Review all Laboratory data and records prepared by those persons assigned:       

  • Assure that all laboratory data are properly checked as required by AvTech SOP’s
  • Assure that all laboratory data and records are ready of the next reporting step
  • No errors are resulting in erroneous date reported outside AvTech.

Troubleshoot assay problems:

  • Assure that assay problems result in minimal delay to project/workload completion.  A target should be no more then 72-hour delay
  • Notify management as soon as possible if this target cannot be met
  • Report in writing a summary of the problem and solution within 24 hours after completion
  • Use resourcefulness in obtaining timely inputs and solutions to a lab problem

Prepare Laboratory reports as required

  • Provide verified tables and figures acceptable for reports
  • Include correct references for items provided
  • Prepare and/or review project/protocol reports to clients
  • When requests, interface with a client on specific issues

Train Personnel

  • Submit individual training plan one week before training begins
  • Notify management of training problems within 48 hours of occurrence
  • Document completed training within one week of completed
  • Assist in the selection of laboratory personnel and justify requested laboratory equipment purchases

Keep management fully informed of all aspects of their work group; including training, work schedules and performance of those individuals assigned to their area of responsibility.

Identify problem areas and concerns, and independently and resourceful pursue corrective actions, and be able to suggest ways to improve upon techniques and/or procedures within established guidelines.

Recognize specific trends in assay performance, QC controls, and Reference or Lab standards

Review and sign off on all laboratory data generated by members of their group.
           
Knowledgeable of the Scientific literature in their specialty and be a major contributor to AvTech plans for equipment purchases, personnel additions and laboratory efficiency ideas.

Responsible for the performance appraisals required for all members of their unit.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to Knowledgeable concerning the theory and practice of analytical chemistry using state of the art instrumentation and technologies.

Demonstrated training ability concerning analytical chemistry, related technologies, and cGMPs.

Demonstrated decision making ability related to the science and regulatory environment of pharmaceutical testing products.

Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or a closely related Science.  Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum of five years experience in analytical chemistry with some supervisory experience preferred.

Any combination of other education and experience that is equivalent or has been demonstrated to meet the job qualification requirements.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.  Laboratory setting that involves glassware, hazardous chemicals, and others working in close proximity.
