MICROBIOLOGY ANALYST

GEOGRAPHICAL REPORTING LOCATION:        AvTech Laboratories

WORKING LOCATION:          AvTech Laboratories, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine microbiological testing of medicated animal feeds using turbidity and agar diffusion assays with strict adherence to SOPs
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem solving of assays
  • Author and revise SOPs
    Ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation associated with testing
  • Ensure that the Microbiology laboratory equipment is compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), including calibration and routine maintenance
  • Ensure the reagents, media and organisms used within the laboratory are updated and within the recommended expiry dates
    Maintain personal training records
  • Maintain the lab in a safe and tidy manner at all times
  • Be a team player, flexible and professionally engaged
  • Be willing and able to work flexible hours and/or overtime as required

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology with a minimum of 2 years lab experience
  • Strong microbiology (bacteriology) background including aseptic techniques
  • Attention to detail and high personal standards
  • Self-motivated and interested in learning new skills
  • Ability to work independently and uphold a strong work ethic without constant supervision, while also working as a member of the Animal Health team
  • To be held accountable for their assays and data
  • Basic computing skills including Microsoft Office

Desirable skills:
2+ years experience in the pharmaceutical industry
GMP experience in a microbiological setting
Experience with animal feed potency assays
Qualification/validation of analytical methods
