Lab Manager
REPORTING TO: John Reuther
BUSINESS UNIT: Jacksonville, FL
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
Supervision, organization, and coordination of all technical activities of assigned personnel within the principles of sound scientific endeavours, business economy, and the personal development of subordinate employees.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS:
Responsible for the overall management of the laboratory staff.
Ensure all regulatory procedures pertaining to sample testing are followed correctly.
Prepare regulatory sample report documents.
Method development using LC and LC-MS
Timely and accurate analysis of samples to meet customer commitments. This includes, but is not limited to, LC and LC-MS analysis, data review and reduction, and providing data interpretation and opinion.
Perform routine and non-routine equipment maintenance and repair.
Tasked with the supervision, organization, and coordination of all activities of personnel using scientifically sound principles, business economy, and personal development of employees.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining professional business relationships with clients, industry officials, and peers.
Act as the administrator and coordinator for necessary planning, organization, direction, and control to meet the goals of the company.
Perpetuate professional business relationships with clients and administer support functions for the laboratory independently and through others. Maintain a high level of awareness of client activity and discuss any concerns with the Business Unit Manager.
Assist in task assignments for laboratory staff, facility management, report generation, and meeting company financial expectations and operational guidelines.
Assist in medium term functions such as directing the training and motivation of staff as well as identifying and implementing new areas of growth.
Monitor and strengthen the competitive position of the laboratory to include the quality of data generated, the relevance to the customers of the services offered, and customer satisfaction. Incorporate all of these functions into budgets and other relevant management reports.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree in Chemistry with 5-7 years experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree with a major in an appropriate science field required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Previous management experience, and proven record of developing a team
Work with people, negotiate, analyze problems, and translate company goals into actions necessary to achieve the goals.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL CRITERIA:
Increase profitability (EBITA) significantly. Target is at least 12% of sales in 2008 and 15% in 2009.
Improve Economic Profit.
Generate annual organic growth of at least 10%.
