At Eurofins BioDiagnostics we test for seed-born bacterial pathogens. The majority of our tests are performed via seed wash. The seed is either left whole or ground, buffer is added, and then they are soaked and stomached or shaken. The resulting seed wash is then centrifuged and a dilution series is prepared and plated on semi-selective media. The plates are incubated, between 5-10 days depending on the protocol, and subsequently evaluated for suspicious colonies. If present, those colonies are isolated to obtain a pure culture, which then goes on to PCR and or pathogenicity testing.
