Antibiotics

Avoidance of antibiotic residues in food is essential in the production of safe products for human consumption. There is a potential for allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. Also, increased resistance to antibiotics can develop from excessive exposure to these substances, which in turn, renders the antibiotic less effective when later prescribed by a physician.

This has led to a growing body of legislation across the world. Legislation, such as the 'Maximum Residue Limits' regulations imposed by the EU in 1990, and the US in 1991.

Worldwide concern about the effect of antibiotic residues in food has created a need for testing muscle meats including Chicken, Fish, Shellfish and Honey. Strasburger & Siegel has responded to this need by significantly increasing the number of antibiotics for which we can test. These include Tetracyclines, Chloramphenicol, Sulfa Drugs, Penicillin, Neomycin, Enrofloxacin, Streptomycin, Spectinomycin, and several more.

We will continue to add to this list as new requirements are identified. If you do not see the Antibiotic you need tested on our Fees List, please call us. We may be in the process of perfecting the method.
