Trait Linked Markers (TLM)

Trait Linked Markers offer a cost effective and efficient way to ensure that your plant selections have a desired trait and is especially beneficial when the phenotypic trait is:

• difficult to visualize
• time consuming to test
• expression affected by the environment
• can only be done at late growth stages
• requires a specific environment that is not available

The Eurofins STA DNA laboratory has collected a large number of trait linked markers in many species that may be of benefit to the plant breeder. In some cases, we have identified molecular markers linked to genes which promote expression of a specific trait, for example a disease resistance gene. Using the marker, we can identify plants carrying the gene, including the zygosity, even in the absence of the selection agent and at any stage of plant growth.
