 Craig Nelson, Eurofins BioDiagnostics

Craig Nelson, Vice President

Certified Crop Advisor, CCA. B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University, M.S. in Agronomy from the University of Kentucky. Craig’s career includes management positions within QA and various agronomy positions at Agrigenetics and Mycogen Seeds. He joined BioDiagnostics in 2002, currently, he is responsible for EBDI's marketing and client services efforts.

John R. Mizicko,
Business Development Manager

B.S. in Botany and M.S. in Plant Pathology - Colorado State University. John spent five years as a faculty member in the Dept of Plant Pathology, University of Minnesota, ten years as a research Plant Pathologist for Niagara Seeds and Sun Seeds, sixteen years with Harris Moran Seeds in various positions including Quality Assurance Manager and VP of Production, and twelve years with STA Laboratories as President and Manager/Seed Quality Services.

Mehgan Styke,
Business Development Manager

BS in Biology-Environmental Microbiology and has Masters coursework in Food Science. This background allows her to aptly help our clients identify the best approach to authenticity, ingredient/origin verification, or purity testing from seed to plant/animal to finished product or ingredient. Mehgan joined Eurofins in 2014, building the ExpressMicro lab as Business Unit Manager before transitioning in 2017 to the Eurofins BioDiagnostics team.

Lorena Dean,
Business Development Manager

Agricultural Engineer specialized in Crop Science, Horticulture. Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; MBA, University of Dallas. Lorena's professional experience includes seven years as a senior consultant with Biotecnologia Agropecuaria in Chile. Lorena also worked as an environmental consultant for the oil and gas industry in the air quality department.

Darcey Rodewald,
Client Services Manager

B.S. in History, University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Darcey joined BioDiagnostics in 2001. Her responsibilities include inside sales, sample receiving, and customer service. Darcey has been serving the seed industry in a customer service capacity for over 20 years. In her current role, Darcey works on building lasting customer relations with clients and introducing customers to streamlining tools and test packages.

Farhad Ghavami,
Chief Science Officer 

BSc. in Agronomy and Plant Breeding, University of Tehran; MSc in Plant Breeding, Isfahan University of Technology; Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Genetics; University of Tehran. Farhad has over ten years of post Ph.D. experience working on plant molecular biology, plant genomics, transcriptomics, quantitative genetics and also molecular breeding. He was an assistant professor at North Dakota State University, and a senior research associate at the University of Minnesota and managed the molecular breeding and genomics technology department at EBDI prior to his current position. 

Brenda Johnson,
Business Unit Manager (Wisconsin)

Registered Genetic Technologist RGT. B.S. in Biology Education/Broadfield Science, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Brenda's career includes trait confirmation testing in seeds by ELISA and herbicide bioassay including routine analysis, method development & optimization,  and consultation to assist in determining the cause of trait impurity.

Melissa Johnson,
Administration Manager

Studied Finance and Accounting at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Over twenty years of experience in customer service and support.

Raquel Salati,
Plant Health Manager

B.S. in Agronomy UNESP, Brazil; M.S. in Plant Pathology, Virus of Grapevines, UC Davis; Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Molecular Virology for Vegetables, UCDavis. Manager of Plant Health Team in Monsanto Vegetable Seeds in San Juan Bautista, CA for sixteen years. Raquel is responsible for Disease Resistance Test Screenings and Basic and Molecular Diagnosis for  Virus, Fungi, and Bacteria.

Asgar Shir,
Director of Operations (Colorado & California)

Bachelor of Science in Agronomy, Tehran University; M.S. in Plant Breeding, Tehran University; M.S. in Genetics, UC Davis. Asgar's career of twenty years has been in agriculture and plant breeding with emphasis on molecular breeding. He previously worked for a vegetable seed company as a molecular breeder before joining Eurofins in 2008. 

Periasamy (Ravi) Chitrampalam,
Research Plant Pathologist

BSc in Agriculture, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India; MSc in Plant Pathology, Punjab Agricultural University, India; PhD in Plant Pathology, University of Arizona; Postdoctoral research, University of California-Davis and North Dakota State University. Ravi has a strong background in both applied and molecular research on wide range of plant pathogens.

Toni Bartling,
Research Scientist

Ph.D. in Genetics, Case Western Reserve University; M.S. in Biological Sciences, University of Nebraska; B.S. in Biological Sciences, University of Nebraska. Toni’s diverse career includes experience in the fields of genetics, genomics, transcriptional regulation, and microbiology. She has extensive molecular biology expertise with eight years of post-graduate experience designing DNA-based assays. Toni joined BioDiagnostics in 2015.

Joe Zalusky,
Manager, Analytical Chemistry and Transparency Programs

AOCS Approved Chemist. B.S. in Biology, Minor in Chemistry, University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Joe's career includes over 15 years of experience in the analysis of seed treatment chemicals using analytical chemistry techniques and method development using GC and HPLC systems. 

Lisa Burns,
Supervisor, Analytical Chemistry & Seed Treatment Application

Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator, Category 4.0 Seed Treatment.  Licensed in WI. B.S. in Chemical Engineering, University of Maine; MBA Thomas College Waterville, Maine. Lisa joined BioDiagnostics in 2009 performing analysis of seed treatments using GC and HPLC technologies, as well as custom seed treatment application.  She also has previous experience in specialty papermaking operations and IP technical writing support. 

Anna Doornink,
Manager, DNA QA Laboratory

Registered Genetic Technologist RGT. B.S. in Biotechnology from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Anna minored in Biology, Chemistry and Animal Science, she joined BioDiagnostics in 2005.

Emily Jacobs,
Mycology Supervisor

Emily is currently finishing her B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She’ll be graduating next Dec from CU Boulder.

Kevin Kadidlo,
Principal Scientist, DNA QA Laboratory

B.S. in Medical Technology, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; Kevin had over 20 years of clinical laboratory experience including molecular diagnostics prior to joining BioDiagnostics in 2005.

Andrew Lyon,
Bacteria Fruit Blotch Program Supervisor

Andrew served as a Ranger in the United States Army for three years prior to attending school. He earned his BS in Biology at Colorado State University emphasizing microbiology, plant pathology, and physiology.

Amie Martin,
Virology Program Supervisor

Studied at Fort Lewis College and Colorado State University. She joined EBDI in 2004, working in multiple areas in Seed Health. In 2008, she moved into Genetic Services focusing mainly on IEF with some experience in DNA testing before transferring to Virus in 2015.

Jean Meyer,
Supervisor-Electrophoresis Technologies

Registered Genetic Technician, RGT. Studied Food Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Jean's experience includes working within the  QA department at UW-Stout food facilities, and then at Figi's Cheese, Inc. She began her career in the seed industry where she worked at Mycogen Seeds in the Electrophoresis department. She joined BioDiagnostics in 1998. 

Nicolette L. Rusch,
Manager, Standard Seed Testing Department

Registered Seed Technologist RST. B.S. Degree in Dairy Science with a Minor in Agronomy from UW - River Falls. Nicolette joined BioDiagnostics, Inc. in 2003 where she became an RST and is now a Supervisor in the Standard Seed Testing Lab (SST).

Wendy Zillgitt,
Manager, Genetic Purity Department

Registered Genetic Technologist, RGT. B.S. in Food Science, University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Wendy joined BioDiagnostics in 2001, she has worked in multiple areas including isozyme electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing, and molecular breeding & genomics.

Terry Dunfield,
Standard Seed Testing Manager

B.S. in Agriculture Education from the University of Nevada at Reno and M.A.I.S in Human Studies from Marylhurst University. Terry has been a Registered Seed Technologist (RST) since 1989. He’s also a senior member of Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada.
