Noriyuki Kasahara, MD, PhD, Histocompatibility Consultant Associate Laboratory Director- Los Angeles
Dr. Kasahara is a Board-certified clinical pathologist who trained in Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he also obtained his PhD in the laboratory of Professor Y. W. Kan, a pioneer in genetic diagnostics. His faculty assignments include many years at the University of Southern California (USC) in the Departments of Pathology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology; the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the Departments of Medicine and Molecular & Medical Pharmacology, as well as service as Director of the Hepatitis Screening Lab; and the University of Miami, in the Departments of Cell Biology and Pathology and Co-Leader of the Viral Oncology Program. He has served for several years as Chair of the OneLegacy organ procurement organization’s Histocompatibility Committee. As a researcher, he developed a novel vector system for gene therapy of cancer which is now being evaluated in pivotal Phase II/III clinical trials, and recently has been pursuing projects on genetic engineering of pluripotent and mesenchymal stem cells.
