Aquatic Toxicology is the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the adverse effects of chemical and other potentially toxic materials on aquatic organisms through bio-monitoring. Eurofins QC Aquatic Toxicology Laboratory has provided bioassay services to wastewater clients in support of the Clean Water Act (CWA) since 1987. Effluent monitoring consists of measuring the concentration of specific constituents, such as heavy metals or volatile organics, followed by bio-monitoring that exposes organisms to varying concentrations of effluents or compounds. The biological responses are then measured and compared to the control. Some of the biological responses that may be observed during the tests include mortality, reproduction, growth and fecundity.
Eurofins QC offers a broad range of aquatic toxicology testing including the design of client specific test protocols required to satisfy CWA specifications and other non-wastewater needs. Testing capability includes Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests, Toxicity Identification Evaluations (TIEs), and Water Effect Ratios (WERs). All NPDES tests are performed to USEPA methods and state required specifications. Customized protocols are employed for non-wastewater sources to comply with other regulatory agency requirements. The Laboratory maintains NELAP accreditation through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. All assays are conducted in a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically for aquatic toxicology.
