Water. As an environmentally focused company, it is our business. We are hired every day to test hundreds of samples, to ultimately determine if water is safe enough to drink. Without water, life would not exist on the planet — water is not only essential for human survival; there is an ecological water requirement in which our natural world cannot function. However, to simply have access to water is not enough. Humans, the generators of mass quantities of pollution, must find ways to protect and clean up our water resources. Water is more than just essential to quench thirst or protect health; water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development. What can we do to protect one of the most undervalued resources on earth?

On March 22, Eurofins Eaton Analytical will be one of many observing World Water Day. It is a day of focusing attention on the importance of fresh water and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources at a universal level. World Water Day is an opportunity to learn more about water-related issues and to be inspired to take action and make a difference. It is also a day that Eurofins, as a company, remembers the reason why we are in this business.

In 2014, Eurofins took a stand and established a new charitable donation program for Water for People (WFP), a charitable foundation whose mission is to expand the availability of safe water throughout the world. WFP, established in 1991, was born out of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the largest nonprofit, scientific, and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water. WFP exists today to promote the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services — accessible to all — and overcome the increasing pressures on water supply.

The goal of Eurofins’ involvement in WFP is to fund a program that educates the populace about the need for water testing. Eurofins’ support of WFP ultimately aligns with the company’s mission of contributing to a safer and healthier world. This campaign in particular strives to raise money and awareness for essential access to clean and affordable water worldwide. To date, the company has contributed thousands of dollars in support of this mission, but the need is ongoing.

We at Eurofins hope to spread the word about World Water Day and inspire others to defend this valuable natural resource. Only those who are strong enough to stand up and speak out can have a direct positive impact on people and communities who don’t have a voice. We lead a charge that can protect and sustain significant social, economic and environmental benefits in the name of water.
