2019 WQTC Bobbleheads and Bobblehead Nation

Samantha Carney, Sales Operations Coordinator

On November 5, Eurofins Eaton Analytical (EEA) held their 5th Annual  Bobblehead auction at the Water Quality Technology Conference (WQTC) Tuesday evening reception in Dallas, Texas.  This year’s inductees included Christine Owen, Director of Water and Reuse Innovation at Hazen and Sawyer and Ed Archuleta, former President/CEO at El Paso Water Utilities.  Together, the two Bobbleheads raised $2,600 for Water for People, a charitable foundation whose mission is to expand the availability of safe water throughout the world.

History of the Auction

In 2014, EEA began creating Bobbleheads of influential members of the environmental water industry and raffling them (or soliciting bids in an auction format) at WQTC each year.  Beginning with a single bobblehead of Dr. Andy Eaton, Technical Director Emeritus/VP of EEA, the “Bobblehead Nation” now includes 15 luminaries from the industry, including the first woman president of the AWWA and multiple A.P. Black and George W. Fuller Award Winners. The EEA bobblehead auctions have raised over $15,000 for Water for People.  Because of EEA’s demonstrated passion for this organization, Eurofins corporate charitable arm also made a large donation in honor of the company’s 30th anniversary in 2017.

Water for People

Water for People, established in 1991, was born out of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the largest nonprofit, scientific, and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water. In the early 1980s, Ken Miller (of CH2M and a former president of AWWA), Wayne Weiss (of Black & Veatch), and Jack Mannion (former executive director of AWWA), shared the vision of a world where all people have access to safe water and adequate sanitation. The three joined forces to support Water For People’s creation and future as a leader in social responsibility and innovation in the sector.

EEA would like to thank Christine and Ed for being willing to participate in the bobblehead creation and be officially inducted into the Bobblehead Nation.  A very big thank you also goes to the auction winners and the additional donors who made this event a success.
