PFAS - EPA Method 533

Sidebar Image

On December 19, 2019,  U.S. EPA announced the new validated method for PFAS in Drinking Water, EPA Method 533.

EPA Method 533 measures up to 29 compounds, which is 11 more compounds than EPA Method 537.1 currently supports.  The new method focuses on the short chain PFAS Compounds, which are those which have carbon lengths of C4 to C12. EPA Method 533 also incorporates isotope dilution which can minimize sample matrix interference as well as improve data quality.

Eurofins participated in the method validation study for EPA Method 533. Eurofins will seek all necessary certifications/accreditations which will be required to support EPA Method 533 as soon as the certifications are offered by various states and other agencies.

EPA Method 533 does compliment EPA Method 537.1, which was published in November 2018.  A comparison of the method compound list is provided below.

How Can Eurofins Help You?

Eurofins understands the needs of clients undertaking sampling events to identify and monitor emerging contaminants such as PFAS. We have designed a program that leverages our 30 years of experience in LC/MS/MS technology to provide a high-quality and cost effective solution to your analytical testing needs.

Eurofins offers the nation's largest LCMSMS capacity dedicated to PFAS testing, with over 35 PFAS related compounds at detection limits well below state and federal screening levels. Our laboratories support methods 537.1, ISO25101, 537M and PFAS by QSM Table B15, with all the necessary validation data to support the precision and accuracy of our methodology.

In addition, Eurofins has successfully implemented an application of Method 537 with isotope dilution for use on more complex matrices, such as groundwater, soil, tissue, and sediment, and has incorporated replacement compounds such as GenX, DONA and F-53B into this analysis. We also support specialty testing such as PFAS in source air emissions and the production of TOP (Total Oxidizable Precursors) Assay data.

Quality encompasses more than just error-free and defensible data; our industry-leading program also incorporates the technical guidance and expertise of our Experts to ensure that we understand your analytical needs and accomplish your data quality objectives.
