Eurofins DQCI now offers DNA/PCR mastitis screening. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is a technique that can identify mastitis causing species based on mastitis DNA detection. PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a technique to amplify a single or few copies of a piece of DNA across several orders of magnitude, generating millions or more copies of a particular DNA sequence. The method is a revolutionary method for cow mastitis screening and offers significant time savings over conventional bacterial culturing, which routinely takes up to 48 hours or even 7 days for Mycoplasma spp.


  • Test time takes 1-2 days from when we receive the sample at the lab
  • Identify up to 15 major mastitis-causing species or groups including Mycoplasma species, and Mycoplasma bovis, plus Staphylococcal β-lactamase penicillin resistance genes
  • Can be used on treated cows since antibiotics don’t interfere with testing
  • Works On both unpreserved and preserved milk samples
  • Simultaneously detects all targeted bacterial species overcoming the common problem of ‘mixed growth’ results of bacterial culturing
  • High sensitivity – detects mastitis bacteria missed by conventional culturing
