Eurofins CRL provides Human Repeated Insult Patch Testing (HRIPT), a critical 6-week study designed to assess the sensitization and irritation potential of materials used in cosmetics, toiletries, drugs, devices, and personal care products. By repeatedly exposing participants to the test material, HRIPT provides valuable insights into potential sensitization and irritant reactions, ensuring the safety and compatibility of your products with human skin.

Flexible HRIPT Testing Procedure

Our HRIPT services offer the flexibility to test your products alongside those of other companies or exclusively focus on your own formulations. We recommend testing with at least 100 subjects for robust results, however we can accommodate panels ranging from 50 to 200 participants. Our 24-hour exposure protocol involves applying the test product to occlusive or semi-occlusive patches on the upper back.

During the 3-week Induction Phase, subjects undergo regular patch applications and evaluations. Following a 14-day rest period, the Challenge Phase begins, where test products are applied to a virgin site on the lower back. Evaluations are conducted at 24, 48, 72, and, if necessary, 96 hours post-patch removal.

Comprehensive HRIPT Results and Reporting

Eurofins CRL’s HRIPT studies provide a comprehensive picture of your product's sensitization and irritation potential. Minimal, transient reactions during the Induction or Challenge Phases, unless observed in more than a few subjects, are generally not clinically significant. Sensitization reactions, characterized by intense erythema, edema, and itching, may occur.

We provide unaudited topline results within 1 week of study completion, followed by a detailed final report approximately 2 weeks post study. This report includes a thorough analysis of the results, helping you to make informed decisions about your product's safety and compatibility with human skin.
