The Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR5)

In December 2021, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) published the Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR5) requiring the monitoring of the drinking water entry points of public water systems (PWSs) across the nation. Participating public water systems include all systems serving 3,300 to 10,000+ people along with 800 randomly selected systems serving fewer than 3,300 people.

UCMR5 sampling is scheduled to take place from January 2023 to December 2025. Eurofins is currently working with clients to help develop a plan and budget for their UCMR5 requirements. Eurofins Preparation for UCMR5 Testing:

UCMR5 requires that all laboratories providing UCMR5 testing services must be approved by EPA. Eurofins Drinking Water Testing has been analyzing PFAS for over 20 years, which includes the initial EPA PFAS data collection and analysis when the two labs provided ~40% of EPA Method 537 analyses during the Third Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR3).

Eurofins Drinking Water Testing laboratories have validated all three UCMR5 methods (537.1, 533, and 200.7), passed EPA’s rigorous approval process, and successfully completed both UCMR5 proficiency testing (PT) studies. Both locations (Pomona, CA and South Bend, IN) have finalized approval as UCMR5 laboratories.
