Are chemicals in your environment putting you at risk for adverse health effects?

Per- and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS), such as PFOA and PFOS, are “forever chemicals” that resist natural breakdown in both our environment and our bodies. These chemicals are used to make products that resist heat, stains, oil, and water. They can be found in Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) firefighting products and a variety of consumer products. These include food packaging, carpet, clothes, cosmetics, cookware, and cleaning products. PFAS can also be found in your surrounding environment: soil, air, drinking water, and ground water. Exposure to PFAS linked to cancer, thyroid disease, immune suppression, elevated cholesterol, respiratory disease and decreased fertility [1].

Why take the PFAS Exposure™ Blood Test?
PFAS chemicals are an emerging concern that may lead to serious health problems according to the CDC. Your environment includes where you live, what you eat, products your use, where you work, what you cook on, and even your home water quality. Knowing the PFAS levels in your blood can help you better understand how your environment has affected you.

What will my results tell me?
This is an environmental exposure test used for research purposes. Because PFAS chemicals are an emerging concern, the development of toxicity levels is still in progress. There is currently no clinical diagnosis or treatment recommendations specific to elevated PFAS levels. This information serves as an indicator of environmental exposure to PFAS. There are resources available to you, with information about sources of PFAS and ways to reduce your exposure.

Self-Collection Test Kit
Collection Kits are an all-in-one solution that includes all the essentials for collection, transport, and storage, allowing participants to self-collect samples at home or work, and submit directly to the laboratory. Samples are collected via a finger prick requiring minimal sample volumes. These kits include lancets and instructions for pediatric and adult use. This is not a medical device and is intended for biomonitoring and research purposes only.

Biomonitoring for PFAS in humans has been conducted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on serum for many years. The CDC publishes National averages for this serum data on a controlled group of approximately 2000 individuals, referred to as the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Serum is generated from blood that has been allowed to clot and then centrifuged to separate the individual components. This technique requires a blood draw from a phlebotomist or healthcare provider. Once you have procured the sample you may have it shipped to Eurofins Sacramento, CA laboratory for analysis. Although the CDC only reports 16 PFAS compounds as part of the NHANES study, Eurofins offers a suite of 47 PFAS compounds.
