Eurofins SF Analytical Laboratories, Inc. Now Offers New FD&C Dye Screen

Eurofins SFA is excited to now offer a new FD&C Dye Screen. The FDA approved nine artificial dye molecules for use in foods, drugs, and cosmetics (with some limitations), in addition to a variety of naturally sourced colorants.

We now can screen for eight of these dye molecules using a validated LC-PDA (liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection) method. When issues in color arise, the FD&C Dye Screen offers the ability to identify common GRAS colorants and potentially rule out dangerous causes of discoloration to restore confidence in a product’s safety and integrity.

How does it work:

- We work with you to understand your product and color issue and develop a unique extraction approach for your specific sample.

- This can include solvent extractions (e.g. methanol), filtrations, centrifugations, and/or solid phase extraction (SPE).

- Sample extracts will then be analyzed alongside dye standards for Blue 1 (Brilliant Blue FCF), Blue 2 (Indigo Carmine), Yellow 5 (Tartrazine), Yellow 6 (Sunset Yellow FCF), Red 3 (Erythrosine), Red 40 (Allura Red AC), Green 3 (Fast Green FCF), and Citrus Red 2 (Solvent Red 80) using a validated LC-PDA method.

- If compounds are present which do not match the dye standards, we can investigate further.

We are excited to work with you! Reach out to our team today to learn more and to get started with submitting samples!
