Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories New England Expands Accreditation Scope to Include Alicyclobacillus (ACB) Testing

July 14, 2025 - Eurofins Microbiology Laboratory (EML) New England has officially added Alicyclobacillus spp. testing to its ISO 17025:2017 scope of biological services. This is an expansion to their existing scope that includes routine pathogen and indicator organism testing for food, food products, beverages, environmental samples, and pet food.
Alicyclobacillus (ACB) is a heat-resistant, spore-forming bacterium that poses a unique challenge to juice and beverage manufacturers. While not a health hazard, ACB can cause off-flavors and spoilage in acidic beverages, leading to costly recalls and consumer dissatisfaction. This method addition allows juice producers the tools they need to safeguard product integrity and brand reputation and reflects Eurofins’ ongoing commitment to innovation and responsiveness to industry needs.
Key Highlights of the ACB Testing Method:
- Targeted detection of Alicyclobacillus spp.
- Validated protocols inclusive of high-acid, shelf-stable matrices
- Inclusion of blanks and controls to ensure analytical integrity
- Rapid turnaround times to support timely decision-making
- Support for regulatory and quality assurance programs
While this method is performed through the Eurofins’ New England lab, your local Eurofins laboratory is also happy to accept samples requiring this testing and manage the logistics to get the testing you need across multiple testing locations with a single analytical report.
