New Method for Low-level Cannabinoid Quantification

Sidebar Image

When it comes to the analysis of major and minor cannabinoids in CBD isolates, methods based on liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (LC-UV) represent the most frequent approach.

Considering the selectivity and sensitivity of the UV detection, quantification of cannabinoids at low part per million regulatory limits applicable in certain countries may become difficult or impossible.

To meet the industry need for these lower part per million limits, Eurofins has completed the development and validation of a ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method for low-level quantification in CBD isolate matrices of:

  • ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆9-THC)
  • ∆8-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆8-THC)
  • tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA)
  • tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)
  • cannabinol (CBN)
  • cannabidivarin (CBDV)

The Limit of Quantification for each of these cannabinoids is 0.0001% w/w.
