Endotoxins are lipopolysaccharides commonly found in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and cyanobacteria. Biochemical assays provide a very sensitive and effective method for the detection and quantification of endotoxins. This test has many applications in monitoring purity of ingredients for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic products as well as water used for dialysis.

Molds are a ubiquitous group of fungi that can cause adverse health effects. Moisture from condensation, water leaks or other sources allows molds to multiply on building material with negative impact on indoor air quality in commercial, residential and other buildings.

New revisions to USP 797 will be effective starting November 1st, 2023 and require sterile compounding facilities to significantly increase their surface sampling and environmental monitoring activities. As part of the new USP 797 revisions, personnel who perform surface sampling must be trained and demonstrate competency.

Session 2 of 2: Wildfires and structure fires occur across the country each year resulting in devastating loss of property and life. We are only beginning to consider the longer-term health impacts fires have on our most vulnerable populations and how we can test for harmful residues called combustion by-products (CBP).

Introductory Session 1 of 2: Wildfires are raging across the west resulting in devastating loss of property and life. We are only beginning to consider the longer-term health impacts fires have on our most vulnerable populations and how we can test for harmful residues called combustion by-products (CBP).

Monitoring of Legionella bacteria, the causative agent for Legionnaire’s disease and Pontiac fever, in domestic and commercial water systems received much attention and interest due to publicized outbreaks and new guidelines and regulations. Time consuming culture methods are considered the gold standard for the detection of Legionella bacteria.

Legionella bacteria, the causative agent of legionellosis, are commonly detected in fresh water including manmade water systems such as cooling towers, hot and cold water supply systems, pools and spas. This organism poses a significant threat to human health, particularly for individuals with weakened immune system due to age or medical conditions.
