Asbestos in Human Tissue and the Environment - Does Size Matter?

Overview of variety, dimensions, and frequencies of Asbestos and other Respirable Elongate Mineral Particles (REMPs) in human tissue and environment compiled during analysis of over 600 lung, lymph node, ovary, and omentum samples. This data shows the type and size distribution of Asbestos and REMPs most encountered in human tissue impacted by asbestos related diseases. We will discuss PCM vs SEM vs ATEM and the ability of these analytical instruments and associated methods to detect and quantify Asbestos and REMPs most identified in human tissue. A discussion of the inherent biases due to counting strategies, methodologies, and instrumentation will be addressed with emphasis of fiber size distributions in the environment per documented peer reviewed literature. Conclusions to include direct comparison of the size distributions of REMP's in the environment to those identified in human tissue.
