Asbestos in Air Analysis - When to Pull Out the Big Gun

Scientific studies have shown that the primary route of asbestos exposure to humans is from inhalation. Therefore, it is imperative to understand how to evaluate the airborne asbestos levels in built and non-occupational environments.

In this webinar we will discuss the common asbestos analytical methods in air, including NIOSH 7400 method using phase contrast microscopy (PCM), and NIOSH 7402 method, EPA AHERA method, and ISO 10312 method using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Sample preparation and analysis procedures are briefly discussed. Most of the presentation will focus on when to use TEM for your air sample analysis and how to select the right method for your sampling objectives.

Topics include:

  • How air samples submitted for PCM and TEM are analyzed
  • What’s the advantages and disadvantages of TEM vs PCM
  • Why is it importance to use TEM analysis in evaluating exposure
  • How to select the right method for your project
  • How to interpret your air sample results from compliance perspective
