Asbestos Types, Dimensions, and Frequencies in Digested Tissue from Individuals with Asbestos Related Diseases

Overview of types, dimensions, and frequencies of asbestos and other Respirable Elongate Mineral Particles (REMPs) detected in digested tissue from individuals with asbestos related disease. The data was compiled during analysis of over 600 lung, lymph node, ovary, and omentum samples. We will discuss PCM vs ATEM and the ability of these analytical instruments and associated methods to accurately detect and quantify Asbestos and REMPs identified in human tissue. The percentage of asbestos fibers and bundles detected by ATEM and meeting the NIOSH 7402 PCMe’s criteria (>5 μm >0.25 μm) will be provided. Conclusions to include direct comparison of the size distributions of REMP's in the environment to those recorded in tissue of humans with asbestos related disease.
