What are ultrashort PFAS? Ultrashort PFAS are per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances with very short carbon chain lengths of C1 to C3, in contrast to the more commonly analyzed short-chain (C4+) and long-chain PFAS typically measured in methods like EPA 1633A.

PFAS sampling protocols can differ from conventional contaminant investigations, yet guidance remains inconsistent and sometimes contradictory. Sorting myth from science is essential for defensible data collection and avoiding costly resampling or data quality challenges.

PFAS regulations evolve rapidly, but the underlying science remains complex and often misunderstood. Whether you're new to PFAS or need to explain these issues to stakeholders, this foundational presentation provides the essential technical and regulatory context for informed decision-making. As the first in our webinar series, this session serves as a primer for the specialized topics, including analytical methods, the state of the union, forensic tools, and matrix-specific applications covered in subsequent presentations.

Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are a diverse class of synthetic fluorinated compounds known for their chemical stability and resistance to water (hydrophobicity) and oil (lipophobicity). These properties have made PFAS valuable in industrial manufacturing, certain firefighting foams, and a wide range of consumer products.

Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) are compounds that interfere with hormonal signaling in humans and wildlife - subtly altering development, reproduction, metabolism, and behavior. While many of these compounds have been in widespread use for decades, only recently have the full implications of chronic, low-level exposure begun to surface.

This recording is ineligible for PDH credits. Part of the Great Lakes Microplastics Summit Hosted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), featuring Bijan Jafari of Eurofins Environment Testing.

Recent progress in environmental monitoring has led to advanced sampling technologies for more accurate contaminant analysis. Passive sampling stands out as a cost-effective, low-labor alternative, providing time-integrated and/or equilibrium data that better reflects contaminant bioavailability and mobility in aquatic systems.

In vapor intrusion investigations, generating reliable and defensible data is paramount for accurate risk assessment and decision-making. This webinar, presented by Eurofins Environment Testing Air Toxics, will explore the essential best practices for canister sample collection, ensuring that your vapor intrusion investigations are grounded in high-quality data.

Microplastics are showing up in more places than ever—from bottled drinks and agricultural inputs to stormwater runoff and indoor air. In this webinar, we’ll explore how microplastics testing is evolving to meet the challenges of both product matrices and environmental samples, using real case studies across industries.

In the last dozen years, potable water reuse, including direct potable reuse (DPR) has become much more important across the US. The challenges associated with potable reuse are not just the need for more complex treatment processes than conventional water treatment plants, but also include the development of monitoring plans that reflect a myriad of different state requirements.
