Partnering with Eurofins on your next soil gas analysis project will give you access to a range of sampling and analytical options unmatched by any other air lab. Our capabilities and expertise in these techniques provide you with the tools to meet your project and quality objectives in a cost-effective manner.

Range of Sampling and Analytical Options

Canister Sampling Solutions

For sites requiring conventional TO-15 summa canister samples for soil gas collection, Eurofins can provide additional sampling equipment to assist with purging lines prior to collection, conducting leak checks on the train, monitoring vacuum at the extraction probe and performing an equipment train blank. Equipment available from the lab includes soil gas manifolds, certified and pressurized canisters of zero air or nitrogen and helium shrouds.

Passive Sorbent Solutions - Waterloo Membrane Sampler™ (WMS)

Passive sorbent samplers have been used for years to map soil gas plumes and provide qualitative information regarding VOCs in

the subsurface. Recent published studies have shown that properly designed passive sorbent samplers can provide quantitative soil gas measurements comparable to conventional active methods. The innovative “low-uptake” version of the WMS device has demonstrated correlation in the field with TO-15 summa canisters. The performance of the WMS and the relatively simple deployment protocols required make it a convenient and cost-effective option for soil gas investigations. Over the past 5 years, Eurofins has assisted in the evaluation and development of the WMS sampler for soil gas and ambient air applications. Our experience with the WMS passive sampler is second to none.

Active Sorbent Solutions – EPA TO-17

Active collection of soil gas on thermal desorption sorbent tubes using EPA TO-17 is ideal for measurement of compounds with a low vapor pressure which do not reliably recover from a TO-15 sampling train or a WMS charcoal device. Sites impacted with middle distillate fuels and those for which naphthalene and the light PAHs are compounds of concern are suited for the TO-17 technique. The sensitivity of the TO-17 technique also means that small volumes (typically <100 mL) are required to meet screening levels, allowing for the use of a simple volumetric syringe to pull soil vapor through the sorbent tube.

Eurofins values your inquiries about our company, capabilities, and services. We are committed to assisting the industries that we serve to find the most cost effective and complete analytical solutions to meet your needs.
