Contaminants of Emerging Concern

Contact Us

Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) are compounds that may be in your water but are not routinely monitored. Some examples of CECs are part of a group called Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) that are often detected in water sources. Eurofins Environment Testing offers CECs analysis of more than 90 herbicides, pharmaceuticals, hormones, and personal care products.

Testing for CECs offers you several advantages:

  • Snapshot of occurrence
  • Indication of wastewater or reclaimed water influence
  • Evaluation of treatment efficiency

Eurofins has developed a sophisticated inline pre-concentration method to test more than 90 PPCPs and pesticides and artificial sweeteners in a single analytical method at low part per trillion levels. The technique is useful for pilot studies evaluating treatment efficiency for both wastewater plants and drinking water treatment systems. Eurofins has analyzed thousands of samples from across the country and was the first laboratory to demonstrate the utility of sucralose as an indicator for wastewater in receiving waters.

In 2008, the Associated Press issued press releases documenting the widespread occurrence of PPCPs in the nation’s drinking waters. Using LC-MS-MS instruments and GCMS systems, Eurofins has developed ultra-sensitive techniques for all types of tests. We help get you the results you need so you can proactively address concerns or make treatment decisions.
