The final version of EPA 1633A was released by the U.S. EPA on December 5, 2024 and published for public comment in the CFR as part of a Methods Update Rule on January 21, 2025. The public comment period closed on March 24, 2025. Although the method remains draft, EPA has long encouraged laboratories, regulatory authorities, and other interested parties to review and use the draft versions of this method. Eurofins’ labs are fully operational and ready to support the latest version of 1633A.

After the landmark publication in Science led by the University of Washington, the specialty team at Eurofins was eager to see how our capabilities could benefit this issue. We began our research and crafted a series of 6PPD-quinone webinars that took clients by storm.

Eurofins Environment Testing in Sacramento, California in partnership with EPA Region 10 worked with EPA’s Office of Water to publish Draft Method 1634, an analytical procedure to test for 6PPD-Quinone in surface water and stormwater.

The American Chemical Society’s Environmental Science and Technology journal recently published a study, “A Self-Collection Blood Test for PFASs: Comparing Volumetric Micro-Samplers with a Traditional Serum Approach” which reports a test developed by Eurofins Environment Testing is a viable self-collection tool for assessing human exposure to PFAS.

A simple equilibrium passive sampler, consisting of water in an inert container capped with a rate-limiting barrier, for the monitoring of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in sediment pore water and surface water was developed and tested through a series of laboratory and field experiments.
